Weight of the World

Tonight did not go as planned. Tonight was Caleb's choir concert, when we walked in, Clint pointed to some former neighbors and found us seats in front of them. We have a lot of respect for this family and know them as some of the first friends we made here in our community. When we said hello, I immediately noticed the wife was using oxygen. I asked her what was going on and she told us that she has been diagnosed with an auto immune disease that is destroying her body. She has been given a year to live. We talked until the concert started and then, as we listened to the kids sing, I tried to wrap my mind around what I'd just learned.

As the concert was finishing up, we heard and felt a thud, and whispered talking behind us. When the last note finished, the wife leaned up and asked if I had a cell phone with me. Her husband had passed out and was sweating like he'd just finished a marathon. He has also had serious medical issues, including cancer and MS. I called 911.

In the meantime, I watched their 15 year old son and felt pure heartache. I can't even begin to understand how it must feel to have two parents with serious health issues and knowing that your mom more than likely will not live to see you graduate from High School, or go on a mission, or get married. With all that comes with growing up and surviving your teenage years, this seems like such an overwhelming trial. I hope Caleb will show love and support to this sweet young man and be the kind of friend he's going to need.

My heart hurts.

What a heartbreaking story. I wish that we could part the veil just a little so that we could better understand why this life has to be so hard. It seems like the trials and the hardships surround us and everyone is taking some tremendously difficult final exams.

"explog" sounds like an messy explosion or some extreme blogging.
I think I might "explog" today. ;)

So sorry to hear about your friend. It seems like some people have so much to deal with, but they usually always seem to come out on top and be such a blessing to those around them.

Wow. I can't even imagine that trial. I agree that it has got to be horrible on the children. I can't even think what to write. That is so sad.
