No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Today I went to donate blood. Unfortunately, it didn’t go so well. As someone with a needle phobia and not a lot of time on her hands, this ordeal took 2.5 hours, both arms got stuck, one of them twice, and in the end my blood won’t be able to be used for a patient in need because it took too long to drip ever so slowly out of me. Clint and Caitlin had to come get me because I was so light headed and shaky and after seeing me with a pasty white face and bandages on both arms, I’m pretty sure Caitlin will never want to donate her own blood.

I had to laugh because I have had the same thing happen. I have been turned down or had faulty veins so many times I have stopped going to donate. David can't because he lived in England and the whole mad cow disease thing. Hailee can't for obvious reasons, Sydnee screams if you even say blood or needles, and the others are too young. I guess vampires wouldn't be interested in my crew!

Wow, Shari. Clint can't donate either because of living in England. I hate to say it, but it will be awhile before I try again. I think I am traumatized. And bruised. Really, really bruised.

So sorry Jamie, don't let it keep you from helping people though, the punishment had heavily rewards!

I don't give blood anymore either. I get migraines a week after I give blood, I don't get them any other time. I feel guilty because of Josh getting so many transfusions, but Jim has stepped up and gives blood when he never did before. I have the same vein problem, it takes them awhile and many attempts to find a good vein.

At least they let you have snacks! Luckily I get turned away before they start to draw the blood, I have low iron so they usually prick my fingers a few times and then give me treats. but when it works, I am glad....

I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience, Jamie. Sounds like you can find better ways to serve and help others. I know that you already do so many wonderful things. Your attempted donation should count for you for a long time.
